The unit operates by holding the diffuser under the enlarger lens with the main unit on the enlarger baseboard. The dial is then turned until the yellow light goes out and the time (in seconds) is read from the outer dial.

Before using the unit you need to make a correctly exposed print to set the paper speed for each type of paper being used.
