Programme

The Southwell Flower Club was formed in 1979 with lots of our founder members still actively enjoying our many club activities.
The Club is a registered Charity and is affiliated to NAFAS -National Federation of Flower Arrangement Societies.
Our Aim is the encouragement and art of flower arranging and the knowledge and understanding of plant materials.
We also aim to achieve this in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere, whatever your skill or experience with flowers and foliage.
Our Meetings are held at 7.30pm. on the first Thursday of the month at Southwell Baptist Church, Nottingham Road, Southwell, where we have demonstrations and occasionally talks with slides presented by NAFAS area or nationally qualified demonstrators.

Our monthly meetings, as well as providing refreshments and the opportunity to meet socially, also offer the chance to purchase, from our sales table, a wide variety of items related to the growing and arranging of flowers and plant material. In February we hold our AGM and elect our committee for the coming year. Early in the season we hold an Open Meeting, when we welcome visitors, free of charge, for a 'taster' evening. Several outings are arranged during the year (see the PROGRAMME).

Sales Table at Christmas Event
In December, ready for the festive season, we organise a major Flower Arranging Event, which is open to the public and is always very popular, and instead of our regular August meeting we arrange a garden visit. During the year we also enjoy a number of other visits to places of interest in connection with flowers and plants.

The Flower Club in Southwell.
We have close links with the Minster and many of our members are responsible for the beautiful flowers which decorate the church. These include not only the arrangements for special events such as Weddings and Flower Festivals, but also the arrangements in the nave and smaller displays in the side chapels.

Although we are a charity and are not primarily concerned with fund raising for charities, we do try to support local projects by contributing some of the proceeds from our Christmas Event to a named charity and by offering floral arrangements as raffle prizes etc for other local fund raising.
