Established since 1981 as a family
business, we offer a friendly informal atmosphere in a 200 year old former
blacksmith's cottage full of charm and character with pretty décor and
mainly antique furniture.
We are situated in a quiet but central location
within easy walking distance to all the amenities including restaurants, public
houses, shops, tourist information office and the Minster.
You will see that we are avid acquisitors of
all things old! There are books to browse over and weather permitting, a

Southwell is a peaceful and charming Minster
town with attractive restaurants, shops, coaching inns and period houses. The
famous 12th century Minster is the most rural Cathedral in England. The Chapter
House contains some of the finest stone carving in existence including the
world renowned "Leaves of Southwell".
There are several other attractions including
The Workhouse owned by the National Trust situated on the outskirts of the town
and the Saracens Head Inn where King Charles I is reputed to have spent his
last night of freedom. A number of Heritage Trails around the town have links
to the Civil War and other local historical connections. Southwell is also home
to the famous Bramley Apple and nearby is the all weather racecourse and a
number of golf courses. Also worth mentioning is our proximity to the Newark
and Swinderby antique fairs which are held six times a year and attract dealers
and collectors from far and wide.
A little further afield are many places of
interest. Newstead Abbey, once the home of Lord Byron; historic Newark upon
Trent; Belvoir Castle and the Vale of Belvoir with the Grantham Canal providing
cycling or walking pursuits along the towpath; the historic city of Lincoln
with its old cobbled streets and wonderful Cathedral; the cultural and vibrant
city of Nottingham with the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont and
last but not least, Robin Hood country!
We look forward to welcoming you to The Old
Forge for your visit to Southwell.
