  Crime Prevention

Home Security
Have a 5 lever lock to BS3621 fitted to your main exit door. All other exit doors require a mortice bolt fitted at the top and the bottom. Always have a door chain and viewer fitted if possible. External doors should be kept locked and the keys removed. Keep keys out of sight in a secure place. Windows require to be fitted with one or more suitable locks fitted along the opening edge.

Consider having a NACOSS approved alarm system fitted to deter burglars. Mark all your property with your postcode and house number.

Away from Home
When going out or away on holiday, leave lights on time-switches and also have a radio tuned into a talk program. If you are away for any length of time, remember to cancel the newspapers and any other regular deliveries. Ask a neighbour to mow your front lawn and to park their car on your drive to give the impression that the property is occupied.

Vehicle Security
Whenever possible lock your vehicle securely in a garage. Otherwise park in a well-lit area. Always keep valuables locked away out of sight in the boot. Have a SOLD SECURE security device fitted to the vehicle to reduce the chances of the vehicle being taken or broken into.

E DIVISION

Your local Police area is Sherwood (Rural) Local Area Command (LAC). This is one of four LACs which make up E Division. Policing in your area is mainly provided by local officers who are supported by Divisional and HQ officers and support staff.

Working with our partners, which includes the District Council and the County Council, we aim to improve the quality of life for the communities within Sherwood (Rural) by reducing crime.

Your local officers operate out of the Police Stations at Ollerton and Southwell and a Contact Point at Bilsthorpe. They are headed by Inspector Tony Gilfillan and are formed into teams, each led by a Sergeant the teams are either response - who attend calls for immediate/urgent assistance, or beat managers.

Specialist Officers, such as CID, are provided by Division while others, such as Traffic are provided by HQ Departments.

A Beat Manager is a Constable with specific responsibility for a particular area within the local command.

It is their job to work closely with the community and our other partners to identify crime and nuisance problems at an early stage and come up with effective solutions.

Your local police are key members of the District Council area based Crime Reduction Strategy, which has been established under the Crime & Disorder Act and which places a responsibility on all partners to create safer communities by reducing crime. Reduction targets are being worked on by the partnership and will be published soon.

Your local Police, however, already have certain hard targets to reduce crime, namely:
  • 10% reduction in burglary of people's homes
  • 10% reduction in theft from motor vehicles
  • 5% reduction in theft of motor vehicles
  • 2% reduction in robberies and to have less violent crime reported this year than the previous year.
Your local police are committed to providing the best possible service in both urban and rural areas and want to co-operate with you by:-
